Android - Services strain on battery.

Hello,

Developing an app for rooted devices. Basically, it runs a terminal command and collects output as it prints to standard out and processes them (Basic inserts into a SQLite database.

What I was wondering though, do you have any links to some readings on how much of a strain or how costly it is to do this via a service?

I need to collect data continuously without missing anything, so that's why I'm using a service, and I know other apps do this as well, so I was just curious what drawbacks there are to this considering my purpose/use?

Thanks!
Justin W.
