Help android sms

Hi All,
I've made this switch to android! I've had every iPhone since they came out but this time wanted something different and water proof (resistant?!)
Anyway, i found an app or two that essentially imported all my iphone sms to android. I didnt realise how many there were (90,700!) as you can now guess my messaging app isnt working very well at all and ive even tried 3rd part apps. sometimes they work but not very reliable.
All i want to do now is delete the sms databse if possible!? ive tried googling, etc but cant find any solutions. i cant even delete any messages from within apps!
Please help!

I should think that if you go to Settings/Storage that you will discover that your phone has a much larger amount of space used up in the Cache.

Click on Cache and then click on OK. That should resolve your problem.

See my screenshot for a phone with very few messages backed up. Nothing like the number you mention.

Long-press the first conversation. press lots more. There should be a trash can at the bottom. Hit that and the highlighted conversations will be deleted. Lots of work.

It might be easier to back them all up (I use SMS Backup & Restore), then do a factory reset and start again. DON'T sync your messages. After the phone's all set up, run the backup program and restore only those conversations you want to keep. (90,000? I have one page worth, and I just kidded my wife today that she probably has over 100. I can't imagine texting as much as you have - in my life.)

I just thought of an even faster way. Application manager. Find Messaging. Clear data. That should delete all your texts in one shot.

I also thought about the Long Press, but that does not give him a "Select All" button..... so, go to Settings/Storage/Cache and just delete everything. That way he does not have to go through the pain of Resetting the phone to Factory and start all over. Been there, no fun.

see my post just prior to yours. we posted almost at the same time.

got another try for you....

In the list of messages, just do a Long Press on the "Thread Name" and you should get an option to delete the entire thread of messages for that one person.

See this screenshot. I am using GoSMS Pro, not the native message app....

Hey All,
Thanks for all your help. Its good to know that i've got a bit of support now that i've moved over to the dark side :)
I had tried the clear data/cache buttons however it didn't seem to actually delete messages. I installed go sms pro and it also crashed quite often. it seemed really random as to whether the messaging apps would open or not and trying to do a long press on large conversations would make it crash almost instantly in the default messaging app. i did find however that in go sms pro i could delete the large conversations if i left it over night so the last few nights i deleted the biggest conversations (took over 6 hours!) and now its back to a usable state! i also found that with the built in ability to 'auto delete old messages' if i set this to a low number it would crash straight away so i found my largest conversation thread and set it to a number about 500 less than what was currently in there.
I know that its mostly useless info but thought id put it all down in case someone else decides its a good idea to import that many messages ha ha!

I am going to suggest that what you interpreted as a "crash" is nothing more than the app loading up the huge amount of messages that you have on your phone.

You got your answer where I colored your text in blue.

Your old phone handled those messages because they were already in the database and it only had to look up the new ones each time. The rest were archived and cataloged for review.

Your new phone had to perform the cataloging/indexing all at once on the entire database. That will take an extraordinary amount of time and is why you thought the app crashed.

Once you get all the messages trimmed down to size, all should be okay.
