Help Android spell checker not working?

I have the Samsung galaxy S5. Usually, the spell check works fine. I run the google keyboard, but have used go keyboard before too. I had to call Verizon and get a new "warranty phone" sent to me. After I set it up, I noticed the spell check is all messed up. On my other phone, it worked perfectly. My biggest problem is, I miss the space bar a lot. So things end up looking like (hey.how.are.you?)

On my old phone, I would get a red line, and when I clicked on it, it would pop up with the words without the dots and with spaces, I would tap on it and go on typing. Now, it just leaves it alone. I have the spell check turned on and all my settings like before and still nothing. Any ideas?
