Android System Recovery <3e>

My wife dropped her Verizon wireless DroidX into the cat water dish!

Removed the battery and placed on a fan for 3 hours to dry out. When I turn phone on I get droid guy with a ! in a triangle. When I hit the search button it brings up the recovery menu. I have tried the "reboot system now" and "wipe data/factory reset" to no avail.

In yellow I get the message: "E: Can't open /cache/recovery/command.

I take it the phone is really dead? Is there nowhere the phone can be repaired?

This truly is a shame but yes, I also presume your phone is dead, Your wife's droid should be able to write and read from the system memory and if it fails to do so, that means the phone is basically useless... Very sorry.

Welcome to the Android Forums!

Sorry to hear about your loss! If it's giving you the exclamation point with the triangle then it's likely booting directly into recovery mode. My best guess is that it's doing this because it cannot access memory to run an installed firmware image. This may indicate that the memory chips have shorted out... or that something else on the system board shorted out.

For future reference when a device like this goes for a swim, it's best to put the phone in something that will specifically wick away any moisture in the phone. Many, including me, tend to use uncooked rice. We do as you did (removing the battery) and place both the phone and battery in a bag of uncooked rice for two to three days.

Another way to do this is to collect those little silica dessicant bags that usually come with new products. When an accident like this occurs, place the phone and battery in a container filled with these silica packets and let it sit for two to three days.
