Help Android system recovery <3e>

hi people,

i would like to reset my phone but the problem is when i'm on the android system recovery screen, i can not choose any option ... i can't go up nor down. the only thing is when i press the power button it reboots the system because that option is highlighted already... does anyone know how to go down to ' wipe data/factory reset '? or just any other suggestion to fix this problem?
 
Assuming you are completely stock, why not just factory reset from within the system under settings> back up and reset> factory reset? Barring that for some reason, the volume buttons should let you move up and down with power being the "select" button.

Haven't been on stock recovery in forever(again assuming you are stock) so I can't help more.

If you are not stock or not sure, plz disregard my above statement until you are sure so as not to brick your device.
 
I wished it was that easy for me ... I stopped using the s3 a while ago because I got the note 3... The problem is I can't go on the s3 itself I forgot my security pattern:$... and the backup pin ... It been a long time ... and I wanna fix this phone so I can give it to my brother or sell it hehe... so... what exactly is stock recovery ?
 
The stock recovery is that menu you were looking at that will only let you reboot the device. I double checked and the volume buttons should definitely let you select factory reset from the menu. I'm not sure if the fact that you had a pin is why it won't let you do anything but reboot tho. You might be able to do a reset thru kies. I've never tried I'm just taking a shot in the dark.

Hmmm yh I tried kies but it didn't support my Samsung galaxy s3:/ ...
Btw I just found something called a usb jig? Can I use that in any way? Or is it just a useless dongle?
 
Yeah don't think that'll help you unfortunately. There may be someone more knowledgeable than me who might know a work around but I don't know what else you could try. Maybe check around in the s3 forums on xda.
