I'm into 90's classic Japanese coupes, I run a car club and I've dabbled with in car PC's in the past.
I was considering building one for my current car... but it's a lot of effort, tweaking and sorting out electrical stuff, and the extras you need to make it all run smooth push the cost up quite high.
Then I had a thought... could a reasonable spec tablet fill the role... needs to be roughly a double din size, we're talking about 190mm x 120mm with a screen of around 170mm (on the diagonal)
It would need wifi of course, 3G would be a nice bonus and a decent amount of storage with expansion (either SD or USB external drive).
It wouldn't need any fancy wiring and could be charged very easily through the cars wiring.
It would eliminate so much hassle, it can do music, movies, sat nav and browse the net.
I imagine it would need to be rooted, and some one would have to design a neat customisable front end for it.
Has this already been done... or am I the first to think of it?
