Android tablet no styluses will work with this tablet

Hi , I have a toshiba thrive tablet and I recently just purchased a stylus and I have to press down as hard as I can to get it to work any suggestions?
 
Most capacitive touch screens don't work with styli - they depend on the capacitive effect of your finger.
