Android tablet screen not turning on.

[Android Question]

So my android tablet is only a day old. I was messing with the brightness and the screen completely turned off. I have tried to factory reboot it, and it seemed to work for a second. I get the green avatar with the exclamation mark, and then after a couple of minutes the android screen comes. After that, my screen goes blank and nothing comes up. The sound notification came up, which I'm assuming is the tablet checking my email. Has this happened to anyone? I don't know what to do, but it's not like the screen isn't working cause the avatar and the android screen popped up.

Thanks in advance for any response.
