Android tablets vs ipad questions

Hi, i am currently looking for a tablet, i am hoping in the long run it may replace my laptop but i am not going to sell that yet incase, but for day to day use i would like to use a tablet more.

i understand that on here we maybe a little more biased to apple, i usually am myself lol

i have always used android on my phones, i currently have a Samsung galaxy s2 using a custom rom, resurrection remix. So i do like android a lot and very comfortable using it.

on the other hand my girlfriend had an ipad 3 already and i do kind of like it a lot and use it a lot when im at hers, i never find any fault with it, it runs extremely smooth giving its lower specs to current new android tablets out. on my phone i must admit i will get the odd app saying it has to close or it couldn

1. No tablet currently in the market, even iPads, can replace laptops. Only tablets using Windows 8 Pro can do that.

2. There are more tablet optimized apps for the iPad, but that was never a consideration in my case IMO. As long as it does what I need.

3. I would honestly disregard all the patent issues. But that's because I'm in Asia, and the courts here have tended to frown on the frivolous patents Apple has. In Korea and Japan, Apple lost.

4. Android can still use flash, in a roundabout way though. Support is at the application level. Firefox for example supports flash.

5. The whole Android tablets are sluggish was back in Honeycomb. It did stutter. However with ICS, even my Galaxy Tab Plus feels snappier than my friend's iPad 2. He even mentioned that he likes playing games on my device more than his iPad.

6. Apple apps are smooth because they are using a standard hardware everywhere, whereas Android is not.

7. I'd choose the Note 10.1...The Infinity may have a better screen resolution, but that also means more chances of trouble for apps that may not support the resolution. The Note 10.1 uses an inferior resolution, but due to this, it will have less problems with apps. Plus the stylus is invaluable for me for illustrations and use for note taking as nothing on an iPad or any other Android tablet will even compete with the accuracy of the Wacom pen on the Notes.

I use an IPAD at work and it seems like there is a roadblock to anything you try to do (such as opening a word document). Just my overall impression. I also find Android to run smoother at most things (like youtube). Most games seem to run smoother on Android as well, for whatever reason.

They are also replacing google maps with their own. That is enough to keep me away. It is also rumored that they are trying to replace youtube with their own video service (whatever that means). So it is starting to sound like they are very much limiting the content.

With apple it seems like everything is a workaround. I also don't like everything being centered around itunes, much prefer most other systems of doing this (there's no dragging and dropping songs, videos etc. they have to be synced or downloaded) which is a more time consuming process for sure.

I work in the music business and there are quite a few music applications that have only been developed in the Apple universe unfortunately so I kind of have to use it, but given a choice there is no comparison.

Also agree with the above that a tablet is in no way a laptop replacement, the aps are almost always limited in some capacity, even simple things like Facebook.

The apple screen is gorgeous, definitely will give you that, the camera in the Ipad 2 is awful btw. The Ipad 3's camera is much more usable.

Just some thoughts.

I use a galaxy tab 7+ because of the size (large screen but easy to carry). I bought the New iPad for my wife. I have used both extensively. The iPad is better. Surfing is way better. More apps. The Ipad works smoothly. No wifi issues. If my tab craps out and if Apple comes out with a 7 incher, I will probably buy an Apple.

Holy Christ in heaven. Anyone that recommends the Note 10.1 needs to have their head examined. Simply go to Comet or Best Buy or Staples (whichever is selling it) and pick it up. You don't even need to turn it on. It is probably the worst made tablet in history! This tablet should not be listed for the consumer level. It was designed to show off the wacom (or whatever its called) display with pressure sensitivity and S pen.

There are only 3 tablets on the market worth recommending; ipad (and ipad mini to be announced Wednesday), Asus Transformer TF700 and the Nexus 7. Of course, if you go with ipad, you will need to jailbreak if you hope to do anything file related.

If we're talking about build quality the Nexus 7 with its lifting screen on the corner isn't exactly better than the Note 10.1. Don't presume your opinions on others.

What they are doing is in iOS 6 (or whatever's next) YouTube won't be pre-installed as their agreement comes to an end. Google was paying either hundreds of millions or billions annually to Apple for the privilege of including the app, which was actually coded by Apple. Now users will have to download Google's version from the App Store, which will greatly benefit Google financially, as they can include ads (Apple's didn't). Because of this, Apple's plan is not that smart. Seriously, who hasn't heard of YouTube? If a user tends to enjoy YouTube, and noticed it wasn't among his apps, he will download it 100% of the time

If you plan to do any significant amount of typing on your tablet, then the Transformer and keyboard dock is the clear winner. I think it has the best keyboard dock over any other tablet.

I'll only get a tablet with a stylus (and I don't mean the cheap capacitive stylii that are out there). Digital drawing is the one thing a tablet can do better than a laptop.

Ironically, posting on Android Forums with an iPad is a breeze. On the other hand, my Galaxy Tab is very laggy on AF and trying to move the cursor within my post is completely hit or miss.

I have no problems, but maybe its because I'm using the app for this forum. LOL. Its called Phandroid.

Apple's native browser will always be greater than any native Android browser, tablet or phone, especially for intense sites like AndroidForums.com, hands down

They are both webkit browsers. With other spec's being equal, Android will usually outperform iOS while iOS will present a smoother appearance regardless of whether your hands are up or down. :)

I have not yet found an android tablet that can surpass the iPad 3 in terms of battery power. Battery life on my iPad so far surpasses even my Kindle fire. I am not a fanboy on any device for all of them have their good and bad points. When choosing an iPad your only possible benefit if you actually can enjoy the retina display or tell the difference between it and android equivalent

Then you haven't used at ASUS Tranformer Prime. My battery (batteries when doc) can last 4 (almost 5) days without a charge.

The Transformer Prime runs a better battery life than the iPad3 on 2 more CPU cores and 4 more GPU cores.
