Android, too complex for its own good

I can't say I've ever experienced any of the issues he has, but there you go.

Updates may be an issue, but not really on the Nexus line. Once you start looking at what OEMs and Carriers do, that's generally what creates the issue with updates.

He's entitled to his opinion, but I think he's talking nonsense. :p

the trouble I've had has been present on both the first OS release and the most current--slowdowns that require running Forever Gone periodically, esp when I'm down to <2GB.

I don't agree with his conclusion of Android being too complex but I did experience the post-update problems he described. Others did too:

Didn't Google change something fundamental in the file system which caused this?

I guess doing a factory reset alleviates the problem but I'd argue that you shouldn't have to do that to preserve your N7's smooth functioning. It's a painful process and just because apps redownload doesn't mean the tablet is in the same state as before you started (minus the stuttering). As an example, do you keep your Angry Birds progress? Your Plume setup? Your homescreen layouts and widgets?

This kind of thing is something Google needs to work on. Backup and restore an iPad and the device is in the same state as when you made the backup. iOS updates are painless. Whether someone likes Apple or not (I tend towards not) they are the mobile benchmark right now and anything which works less well than iOS is behind in that area (updates, backup/restore, etc).

I'm not hating on Google but am a geeky engineer and can't ignore the "data".

Do not, I repeat do not even click on any articles written by mr. kendrick. He is a pretend "i want to be open minded" blogger. Everything he writes is inflammatory and his conclusions are always "oh I think its better on the ipad". He tries the I won't be on nuclear mode but still a ifanboy slant with his writing so that he can be more convincing. The more inflammatory his articles are, the more clicks he gets. So don't even bother reading it. So much of what he says is absurd.
