Android update on Motorola Backflop...er Backflip?

I really like Android, but want a newer OS version and remove the AT&T lockdown. Is there anyway to reload a more up to date Android release and get rid of the AT&T version on this device?

Unfortunately no. There is no 2.1 sources for the Backflips platform. However, if the backflip is anything similar to other android phones then something might be able to happen.
