I have a Samsung S3 and i had an Android update today. Since then, my mobile data is switched on but doesn't work. Must my pin number be reset in order for it to work outside of a WIFI zone?

have you checked the APN settings of the phone? Go to settings->(under wireless connections) choose more settings-> mobile networks-> APN. If it is empty contact your carrier or go to google play and download Tweakker APN https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tweakker&hl=en.
