Updates are generally pushed by manufacturers/carriers. If your tab was never updated from Froyo, it is highly likely that it will not get an OTA update, in which case you would need to root your tablet and look at installing a custom ROM.
As rooting is quite an involved process, you would probably be best off signing up for a free account, so you can ask multiple questions and get responses for our members
