Android Without Paid Apps

I am considering the Milestone but in Canada you can't buy paid apps.

Is it worth getting an Android phone if you don't have access to the paid apps?

Do most people only use the free ones?

Thanks

Hey man,

Fellow Canadian here. I'm loving Android so far, even without paid apps. Yes, you will be disappointed from time to time when you head about an awesome app and are excited to get, but then at the end of the article or post it mentions it's a paid app. :-( There are several I wish I could get. I believe by rooting you get around the issue and somehow purchase paid apps, but I'm not sure.

Anyways, I think there are enough free apps to make it worth your while! :-)

Pirate the app and paypal the dev the money. Same difference, no loss to Google.

Actually considering that Google takes 30 cents for every US dollar, Google does suffer some loss.

But as a Dev I'm totally cool with people paypal'ing me money. =D

I never would have thought of that.

Thanks to all who replied. I really really want the Milestone now.

Great! Just to add there are loads of good free apps (or ad supported apps) out there, and paid apps will come to other countries eventually.

A ton of app devs have the market version, and the pay for outside of the market version just because of this very thing =)

I never understood why other countries couldn't get paid apps. You would think that the more accessible they are, the more money they would make.

Everthing becomes harder when you start crossing international borders. Think of the legal hurdles, not the technical ones.
