Android X woes

Hi, We just purchased an Android X through Verizon Wireless. We are former AT&T customers. Verizon went to transfer our contacts from our AT&T Samsung phones to the Androids and it would not work... They told us all this 'technical' stuff to do and we went to do it and we were not successful,,, can anyone clue us in?

What brand/model phone did you have while at AT&T? If you had a smartphone there you could very likely be able to export your contacts from your phone and import them into your GMail accounts. If they were feature phones then this gets a bit more difficult as you now need a means of reading the contacts off of your AT&T sim cards.
