Android x86 running on VMWare SD Card problem

Not sure if this is the best place to ask this quesiton. I'm interested in writing apps for Android and have Android x86 (Android-x86 - Porting Android to x86) running on VMWare. A problem I'm having is that a lot of apps (eg Kwaak3) give me an error that I require an SD Card. I have gone through the info on

Sdcard HowTo - Android-x86 - Porting Android to x86

and have for example tried

SDCARD=ramdisk

on the command line but still says I dont have an SD card. Wondering what I might be doing wrong.

I don't know if you still have this problem, but maybe others do.
You must make a partition on the disk and mount it on /sdcard in lower case.

Is running a VM with Android really any better than running the emulator that comes with the SDK? It seems like a lot of work for little gain. OTOH, congrats to you for even trying it. I've been kicking around the thought of loading Android in a VM, glad to see that someone is doing it.
