If there is one thing we could change about the GiiNii Movit Mini it’s the name - everything else is straight up bread and butter. Its not hard to see why WE think it would be one of the coolest things at CES 2009, but when Engadget echoes those sentiments and Gizmodo claims the “idea [...]

omg i neeeeeeeeeeeeeeddd one right now!!!!

i swear by all thats holy i will buy one. my best way to tell apple to go screw themselves is this.

What's the release date.... think i'll have to get one....

For any one who cares they will be released end of July early August.... and 2 to 3 months in advance if you are a dev....

here's the emails from Giinii:

Hi -
Thanks for your interest in our Movit item. The Movit Mini is under final development and we've had a tremendous amount of interest in it already. Our target date will be late summer 2009.

looks awesome! but sucks that its only 256mb without an sd card. I dont get why people try to compete with the Ipod but dont offer nearly as much storage. Right now that is the only reason I lean twards apple.

see I just don't think it is that important "YET" they are trying an Android version which may or may not compete with apple... Introductions start small (usually)... I know that it was compared that way in the article but it is essentially an android phone with out a carrier and with a 16 gig or larger card shouldn't be an issue.... I know it's been said on this site before although I can't remember who said it but I just don't think comparing anything to apple in the future makes sense... as apple and google are headed in VERY different directions....

I'm happy to see Android on more hardware, which ultimately leads to more applications and features due to a larger customer base.

Personally, I ruled out the iPod Touch because I didn't want to keep up with TWO devices. I will not consider this device for the same reason.

256 MB, ouch...

I'm hunting for an iPod Touch replacement and this one is not looking so good...

--EDIT--

The price tag is impressive. The savings could pay for a micro SD. But do I want to trade my multi-touch for Android? Probably.

please, someone enlighten me on what is the purpose of these things and why everyone has them? If you can only connect via wifi, and you are not in a wifi area, what is the point of the darn thing? I really dont get it. Yes I know you can watch movies and listen to music and blah blah blah but I can do that in my car and just about everywhere else I am too. (movies on a airplane, tv in a bar, music in a gym) what is the point of these things? why spend the money?!

Oh my goodness I just wanna schmak you. JK:p
The point of these things is to have the connectivity and many features of a laptop without having to lug around a laptop. And some people don't feel like paying for a 3G agreement.
If you don't understand what it's for, that's ok too. I don't understand what dressing like a woman is for but plenty of men find it practical for their lifestyle. Some people find video games pointless, but others would strongly disagree. If you don't like it, then I strongly suggest you don't buy it or else you're in for certain disappointment.
Or else, you could be in for a pleasant surprise. At first I thought Twitter was an impractical chore. But now I'm quite addicted.

hmm I never thought about it that way. Can you run docs on it like word, excel, powerpoint?

It's Android, so absolutely. Android has over ten thousand applications (programs) available in its app marketplace, and loads of them are free to download. There are indeed apps for editing documents and spreadsheets and the like. I've read that Documents To Go 2 will be free soon, and there's also the very cheap ThinkFree Mobile. Both work nicely and should suit your needs.

I'm also very excited about the device that this thread is about. It's got a webcam for video chatting, which my lonely and dying grandfather loves to do on weekends. Although the iPod Touch has access to 65000 apps and a much larger internal storage, the Movit Mini is expandable via a MicroSD slot and has a more favorable platform for developers (programmers). Either way, I plan to obtain both the iPod Touch and the Movit Mini to do a comparison review and decide which platform is easier or more convenient to develop on.
