This is a great way to let people donate and give them a little reward.

I might change it from 6-months to a year of membership, and change the icon from "Premium" member to "Supporter". I'd rather be looked at as a supporter of the site than a "VIP"
 
Yeah, I'd love to contribute but I'd be hard pressed to convince my wife to let me donate $40 a year to "some phone site"
 
you'll make more money by allowing the users to choose their own donation amount. you'll have a bunch of 1 dollar donations to get those avatars and other options which would most likely outweight the 5 or so paying 20 bucks

A year would be great.

I like "Premium" better.
