i'm using an n8 atm and when i go back to android, the main thing i'm gonna miss is the fm transmitter; so is the upcoming lumigon t1 the only android phone to have one?

Are you sure you're not referring to an FM receiver?

I don't think you will fined any mainstream Android phone with FM transmitter. It is just not a "hot" feature in the phones. Besides, the audio quality sucks, the transmission is easily distorted and in urban areas it is tough to find a free FM slot.
There are better ways to bring audio into the car (CD, AUX, USB, SD, BT, etc)

If you want it, the solution is to buy a stand alone FM transmitter (available from $20).

yes; the lumigon t1 does have a transmitter

it's not so easy bringing cd, aux, usb or whatever when you don't know what car you're going in to (i don't have a car, but am obviously often in someone else's car)

it's pretty tough to tell the audio quality from an fm transmitter apart from any other option you mentioned in a car with all the background noise and not-so-brilliant speakers

buying a standalone fm transmitter solves nothing as the whole point is to have the option with you always - in the phone

i suppose most people would say the camera is the best thing about their n8, but i've had the thing for half a year and have taken 1 picture - i have however used the fm transmitter a couple of dozen times

LOL. Your situation is not common - most people concerned with music in their cars simply own a car. :D

I'm afraid there are not many options for you with Android phones.
If you are mostly riding in the same cars, you can simply share your music by burning it on a CD and giving it to the drivers. It costs nothing, it is the most compatible and friends will be happy to get a CD as a gift. :)

If you are riding in random cars, well, just respect the drivers taste in their music. And if it gets unbearable, suggest another FM station.

Yes it is. Fm quality is about HALF the quality of any direct connection. Not to mention the transmitters that are cheap, or ones in phones that are very small, do not have the power or electronics to make it sound decent.

I own an N97 which I use primarily as a music player. I personally find that the FM transmitter is subject to interference not matter what frequency I use. I went through the entire frequency range on my car stereo and cannot find a clean enough frequency. I always seem to get some interference with some weak radio signal.

I have only had success with the FM transmitter at home where I can put my phone right beside my FM antenna of my stereo receiver. I'm not sure exactly where the antenna is in my car. It appears to be somewhere behind the dash board, so I cannot put my phone close enough to drown out any interference.

I happen to own my own car, so I have a 3.5mm headphone jack to cassette tape interface for my car stereo.

I assume this is very common scenario in Scandinavia which would explain why Nokia and Lumigon would have this feature in a phone?

If it's not difficult for you then good for you as you'll have no qualms using an FM transmitter. I can tell even without a side-by-side comparison and they're a non-starter due to the sound quality issues. FM transmitters are always worse IMO. The hard wired ones are a reasonable compromise, IMO (less interference) but they don't sound suited to you at all.

i've seen lots of people say the audio quality is crap, but i have honestly never had that problem - i've only ever used the fm transmitter in an n8 tho', so i guess maybe nokia just has a good quality one in there

of course if you're using it in a car, the placement of the antenna is a rather important factor
