I would like to be able to read and manage hundreds of journal articles (PDFs), mostly from my Android tablet. Requirements/desires include:
My tablet is a Nook HD+ (the 8.9" screen with Retina display). I have it setup to dual-boot in both the Nook's ICS environment, and a rooted Jelly Bean environment via "AndroidForNook"
My phone is the very modest Virgin Mobile LG Optimus Slider running Gingerbread. But as I said, I love the QWERTY keyboard for writing a short summary of an article.
The candidate apps so far are:
- good highlighting capability
- cloud storage/syncing, e.g. using DropBox or Box, but with the ability to work offline as needed
- hierarchical organization of PDF files, with at least one layer of directories
- in addition to hierarchical organization, a keyword-based indexing system similar to Delicious or Pinterest [ maybe I could just do this with a separate Delicious account? ]
- the ability to writeup a short summary of an article and include it in my modified PDF. I strongly dislike the tablet on-screen keyboards, so I'd probably prepare these either on a computer, or preferably on my (underpowered) Android phone's QWERTY keyboard. It might be necessary to cut/paste these summaries. Being able to run the PDF editing software directly on this phone is not a requirement.
- some integration with Zotero (preferred) or Endnote would be helpful, to assist in writing articles on my computer
