Annoyance with text entry-am I missing something?

I have a galaxy nexus, my first Android, and use it a lot for forum use, like this.

I find that entering text into a quick reply, or full edit box, the text box zooms into a certain zoom level that I cannot alter when the keyboard comes up (default or swype) and it is wider than the screen.

That

I don't experience any change in zoom from default, but the text box is scrollable. Also, if you Swype from the Swype button to the ABC/symbols button, you will get arrow keys yo control the position of the cursor.

Edit. I see you have the cursor keys down pat. I could suggest trying a different SMS app.

This is not in SMS (that is fine and wraps within width of the screen).

It is in both default and Dolphin browser, when typing in boxes identical to, and including, this quick reply.

Oh, in forums? Just get Tapatalk (works on this and many forums). This forum also has a free app called Phandroid.

Its not exactly an Android fault, its basically that the nature of such websites make them unable to reflow into the phone screen because they don't have mobile view.

There are some functions the forum apps aren't as good at as browsers, behind the scenes mood stuff being one. the nexus is so fast I love browsing the desktop sites, it's just the text entry niggle that bothers me. That and a new one that arrived with ICS 4.0.4 yesterday.
