Help Annoying hyphens in contact numbers

Does anybody know how I can get rid of the hyphens that keep getting added to my contacts when I import a Vcard ?

I noticed that when I exported my contact numbers they went from displaying as 07777123456 to 077-77-123456.

This is not a format i'm used to so I opened the Vcard and used a text editor to remove all the hyphens and replace them with nothing. Saved the Vcard and imported it, but it's put all the hyphens back in place !!! Arrrggh !!

Is there anyway to change this without manually editing each contact ? I'm running GV 1.6, if that makes any difference.

These are phone contacts? I know how 5to with google contacts but not sure about phone contacts

Yes it's phone contacts. Thought it was just the export that had added them at first, but the import does too.

If you import them as google contacts, you can export via gmail to CSV and remove the - then reimport to gmail. But I assume your contacts aren't google contacts for a reason.

No real reason, I've just never used google contacts. In fact, I don't use my google account at all....apart from accessing the market.

oh ok.

Well you can try that then, and then everytime you wipe to install a new rom, once signed in all your contacts will download automatically too.

-Settings>applications>Manage applications>Contacts storage (Clear data)
-Contacts>menu>import from SD (Choose your gmail account)
-Let it sync
-Log into gmail on a computer with MS excel on it (or maybe Open office will do)
-Export contacts to CSV
-Edit it accordingly
-Delete these contacts in Gmail (you can just tick them all)
-Re-import the CSV to gmail.
-Let it sync to phone.

Thanks, it was slightly easier than that though as I already had an edited Vcard. I just cleared my contacts, logged into Google Contacts on my PC and then uploaded my edited Vcard. This then synced to my phone without the hyphens.....result !!
