Help Annoying Notification Bar Issue

I'm not sure what's going on with this, but for some reason I keep getting a notification that reads "upgrade available". The "upgrade" is for an app called Quick Touch Text Messaging. Does anyone know why I am receiving this notification on my RAZR Maxx constantly? I use Handscent for all of my messaging and have never installed another messaging app. The developer is ThumbFly Technologies, LLC. Is there any way to prevent this annoying notification from continuing? I swear it seems like a virus, but I don't mess with apps and customization. This app is in the Play Store.

Rogue app notifications can happen when a legitimate download of another app/widget has barnacled to it an add scheme that, once clicked even by accident, will cause those false notifications and even a new download.

I'd go into Application Manager and do some serious cleanup of cache and data of all 3rd party apps, then reboot. I'd also look carefully at downloaded stuff and maybe get rid of some of it. Sometimes the 3rd party launcher itself has the bad file in it, usually attached to their own wallpapers, themes or icons packs.

You could also try going to the Play Store, searching for that app, and then checking to see if you have an 'uninstall' option.

It might be aggressive advertising, pushed by ad networks like AirPush and caused by a recently installed or updateted app on your phone.

Jelly Bean introduced the feature to indentify the app which has pushed a notification and to disable the app's ability for notifications.

Do long press on the advertising's notification, that should pop up an "App Info" button you can press which will tell you which app has created that notification.
Also from there you can conveniently disable the app's ability for notifications, or if you want, uninstall the app.

Thanks folks. I checked the Google Play Store suggestion and I didn't have an uninstall option. Also, I am still running ICS. I'm rooted but only because received the phone that way. I'm hesitant to install JB because I don't want to factory reset my phone. Unfortunately I did receive the JB update download so I'm constantly getting the prompt to install it. I wish I could find where the download is so I can remove it, but that's another issue.

The Quick Touch Messaging notification doesn't happen every day, but frequently enough to be irritating. I'll check the link to the other thread you gave me, Harry.
