Lurker
I have ongoing problems with low memory on my HTC Desire. Despite the fact that it tells me I have almost 2 gig available space my apps cannot update.

I have only a few apps on the phone that I have downloaded, I have deleted some to try to allow the ones I use regularly to update to no avail. Neither supplier (TMobile) help desk or anyone in their store can help. Anyone help with this one ???

Hi Annser, and welcome to AF :)

You'll find this is extensively discussed in the HTC Desire forum here.

I assume that the 2 GB is on your SD card, as the Desire only has 147MB of internal storage available. The problem is that not all apps can be moved to sd, and even where they can it's only part of the app - part of it always remains on internal memory. Also all applications' data remain in internal storage.

Quick hints: move what you can to SD (but not where the app has widgets that you use, as these will stop working). Look at your apps sorted by size (in the Manage Applications menu), and for the big ones see how much data they are using. If some are using 10s of MB see whether this is reasonable or whether you can clear data for some of them. If contacts storage is using a very large amount, check that you don't have a lot of duplicates - try editing some contacts and make sure that you don't have the same information many times (can happen).

For a quick fix, clearing app caches can help, but that's usually a temporary fix.

Hope that helps, but do pop over to the Desire forum to see what othes have done.

And welcome again :)

Hello and welcome aboard.

What I would suggest is for you to get a bigger SD card. SD cards are available on EBay or Amazon for very low price. This should fix the problem once and for all.

Thanks for joining.
