Anonymous Taking Down Facebook

Anonymous: Facebook's going down November 5 | Technically Incorrect - CNET News

Is that really possible with Facebook's massive server system? I remember they tried to take down Amazon but failed due to the sheer size of Amazon's servers.

"If you are a willing hacktivist or a guy who just wants to protect the freedom of information then join the cause and kill facebook for the sake of your own privacy." - Anonymous

Can anyone explain that quote to me? I'm genuinely puzzled. It seems a bit hypocritical of them to be talking about freedom of information yet threatening to take down a website full of information. Time and time again they talk about freedom of information yet they take down websites because they don't agree with them. They talked about how they are serious about protecting freedom of speech, yet they took down the Westboro Baptist Church's websites.

I find it also really perplexing why Anonymous would want to be "protecting our privacy" while they expose the personal information of whoever they attack.

The simple explanation is that three quarters of anonymous are young teenagers that got their hands on a booter. The long drawn out explanation is pretty much just explaining how stupid those people are. >.>
The ones that managed to get into Sony's stuff are the people that actually know what their doing, the rest are just followers.

Funniest quote:

"Facebook is the opposite of the Antisec cause. You are not safe from them nor from any government. One day you will look back on this and realise what we have done here is right, you will thank the rulers of the internet, we are not harming you but saving you."

Isn't that what crazy evangelists say?!?!

I wouldn't know, I've never talked to one. :p

I'm sure that after whatever happens is over and done with, this'll die down until they make their next "attack plan", people will get all worried again, and the cycle will repeat.
I think most people will be able to live without facebook for a couple hours.

Life won't be worth living during those couple of hours! :p

I'd be lying if I said that wasn't true for some people. <.<
I bet they'll flock to Twitter.

> Waiting for FB to come back up #waiting #facebook #winning

Or something like that :rolleyes:

Ooh, so they are going to fire a LOIC and try a DDOS attack so they can take don a site. then what? Wait a few minutes while FB boots back up? Anonymous is fun to watch, but lets face it they need better tactics if they really hope to change the world. Besides, FB is so massively distributed that I doubt there are enough folks willing to tie into a DDOS attack to even make them sweat.

Now if we are talking about a break in and anonymous actually hacking Facebook (something lulzec is more famous for), that is a very different story. Alas, since they are asking for volunteers, I doubt tat will be the case.

It appears the Murdoch organization has a whole division (NDS) which hires known hackers and trains engineers to hack it's competition.

Anonymous is not taking down facebook. Not like it would very hard to do. Facebooks servers are a nightmare of sql code that could be hacked by accident, for example;

First name= Johnny
Middle=Drop Table
Last=all
(MODS-this will not work, but a code very close to it will.)

There are two possible attacks that could happen against facebook. A sleeper attack, which has hacked the website months ago, inserted coded that leaves a back door open, this code will allow any useable backups to be pwned.

The Second attack is simple a copy and paste of ALL the data facebook has, including emails/email passwords, messages, accounts, credit cards, and even geolocations. This information would copy the every thing facebook has on you as a person and display it for the world to see. Everything you ever said, your ex's, what you bought at newegg, and who is watching your account, quick shout out to Frank at the FBI, I know you are watching me. The level of information that facebook has, once revealed to the public, would never be allowed by any company to store again, hence destroying facebook.

But I have to digress, facebook will not be hacked by anonops, ever. Because in their own words,

TO PRESS: MEDIAS OF THE WORLD… STOP LYING! #OpFacebookis just ANOTHER FAKE! WE DONT “KILL” THE MESSENGER. THAT’S NOT OUR STYLE

#Anonymous #OpFacebook is being organised by some Anons. This does not necessarily mean that all of #Anonymous agrees with it.

We prefer to face the real power and not to face to the same medias that we use as tools. #OpFacebook #Anonymous

I always found it strange that people are so willing to put all of their personal info, and often even incriminating evidence (showing themselves smoking pot, underage drinking, etc.) right up on FB. Some people share more about their lives on these social networking sites than they do in person. It's a little ridiculous.

Will it be hacked? Will anything happen? I am not sure. The prospective hacker's message seems to be "your 'private' data is not safe". At least that's what I take away from it.

An anonymous hacker group's threat to shut down the BART website did not happen at the promised hour Sunday, but the group hacked into an external BART website that has more than 50,000 email subscribers and posted its logo on the home page.
Transit officials said they will close down the MyBart website, which is run by an external vendor, and inform all the members that their names, phone numbers and email addressed may have been compromised.

Yup. Trust me, their shenanigans will come back to bite them. If I ever hire someone, you can bet I'll use Facebook and Twitter to help find out if I am making a good choice.

I might post to their FB page why they were not hired.

Facebook and Twitter pages can easily be blocked so employers can't see anything.

A lot of people "friend" coworkers. I have seen that bite people in their own ass multiple times. In fact, many employers are adding clauses about social networking media and what should/ shound't be said in their employee handbooks.
