Another "Buy or Wait Thread"

Hello, i have been thinking about buying a note 3 for a month... Finally i decided if i buy it will be tomorrow. Here is the thing i did my last research today and now i am not sure if i should wait for the "galaxy s5" or another phone that will surpass the note 3. Also the htc max even thought it fails at some points like the finger scanner and not having the s pen is strong in some others...

So, Making a 2 year contract and paying $300 for the note 3 is worth it? or is not worth it and i should get the s5? Why and which phone i should wait for?

Depends on what you are after and how soon you want to buy.

You mention the S-Pen, so if that's important to you you want the Note anyway, since based on past form no other phone will have it, and the next Note will be half a year away.

The other question is, what would make a phone surpass the Note in your book? Sure there will be more powerful phones over the next few months, but that statement is always true whatever phone you talk about and whenever you ask the question. If you want a phone in that size bracket, and rate the Note above the HTC (or the Xperia Z Ultra, if you like really big phones) then IMO you may as well go for it now. Conversely if you are happy to consider something a little smaller, and don't mind waiting 3 months, then there will be other options (though right now nothing reliable is known about them).

Yeah that is why i am a little :S... Not sure if i should wait and hope the s5 is really a big step ahead. Better screen maybe bigger one from the s4... and better build quality. So to be clear the best phone by specs are the htc one max and the note 3 and the next big thing should be the s4 and the note 4 in september or october?

How long can you delay your phone purchase? I haven't seen a date for the S5, but rumors say it might not be released until March or April at the latest.

It's also hard to recommend a non released phone since the specs are not known for certain. Don't worry about having the newest, just one that has the features you want.

Yeah i think the same what i am not sure if it worth $300 +plus contract extension, then the s5 has way too good features and probably for $200... I think ill wait maybe the S5 will surprise us. Anyway, for the fun of it the Note 3 or the HTC one max? I already read about them and saw flossy's review just wanna hear why you like one more or the other just by personal likes.

Well that tells us that you rate screen size highly, since there are several smaller phones with more powerful processors than the One Max.

Truth is nobody really knows about the S5. Based on past experience it will have a more powerful processor than the Note 3 (a safe bet as it will be 6 months newer). Approx 5.2" screen sounds plausible, as LG already have that and Samsung like to use big numbers in their marketing, but I'd be surprised if bigger than that as they will want to keep it distinct from the Note series (also why I think no S-Pen). But even these statements are just guesses, extrapolating from past experience, and could be wrong.

Basically, stuff you read in the rumours should be treated sceptically. Past experience would predict incremental improvements, but then they may think that the S4 sales (matching the S3 but not growing as much as expected) show that they need to do more than that this year. Who knows? But on the other hand, there have been rumours of metal or ceramic flagships from Samsung for 2 years now, which have been consistently false. The fact is that a lot of rumours are just made up, speculation posing as information in order to attract clicks.

I'd personally say that if you want the Note-sized screen you may as well buy now. If you are happy with something a bit smaller and happy to wait a few months then there will be something along which is better in some respects, but it's hard to be more precise than that.

Yeah i doubt it will have an spen... I think it will have a good built quality, bigger screen and specs. One last question maybe i am off topic. Since i am new in the android scene... How much time it takes the root devs to release a root for a nw phone? (Average time of course)

Varies. It's usually quite quick for a flagship device (a lot of developer interest), but there are caveats. For example, some US networks use encrypted bootloaders, in which case phones bought through those networks may not be rootable even when other variants of the same handset are.

Even though the note 4 probably isn't coming for another 6+ months, I might still wait a bit to see if the price drops at all. $300+upgrade fee+2 years is a lot to spend on a phone.

Yeah that was exactly my final thought. Is ATT's fault because all carriers dropped the price 2 months after it came out. Tmobile is selling it for $99 and sprint for free on new contracts. So i decided ill wait and ill stick with my iphone.
