Another evil empire?

that sucks .. but google should have looked deeper into these issues when developing android. they are not babies and have professionals that should have seen this.

microsoft is doing what any company / person would do...

but I am on android's side.. and hope wp7 crash and burns together with ios

Looks like Apple and Mirosoft must be really worried about Android. I think Apple is being silly, they are trying to sue everybody.

Microsoft Gets $444 Million a Year From Android Patents, Says Analyst.
Goldman Sachs claims Microsoft will get $444 million in revenue from Android patents this year. They estimate they are receiving $3 to $6 per device sold after settlements with Samsung, HTC and others Android manufacturers.

Why do you guys think Google bought Motorola? Microsoft & Apple combined have nothing on the patents Google just bought.

I think MS is annoyed at Linux. There have been rumors that 8 will not allow dual booting and the usual dual booting is with some form of Linux. Both MS and Apple simply cannot believe that some do not fall in love with their interfaces instantly and want to control devices themselves.

I know I won't bother with MS after I can't get updating security for XP. Straight to Linux and MS can get lost. The programs I need are on 2 boxes that don't need the internet, so don't need security. They run special programs.

Personally, if I was part of a company and some other company was using my patents, I'd sue them. I mean almost every other phone company out there pays Nokia and Motorola some part of their income for patents. The only difference here is that the patent suing and stuff have become public knowledge. This is normal for any company, even car companies, where one company pays another for use of patented technology.

Needs to be curbed in some areas where the suing is leading to a monopoly. Like Europe getting fed up with IE and forcing MS to let them use the browser of your choice as default.
And sheer stupidity like MS trying to patent windows. Band-aid and Kleenex are 2 more. Maybe advertisers can't use the words, but the public does regardless of which brand.

Personally I think that IE crap in the EU is stupid. How are you supposed to go to the Chrome website to download it then? And if there is a way I dont know thats as easy as that process, that remove IE crap is just crazy.

I think the investigation into Google where Android is concerned will fail. If you want to use Bing instead of Google search, you can easily change it. It's not like Apple where you're forced to use their services with their products. Like if you want to browse the web, you're going to use Safari with the iPhone, period.

The part where Google puts their own services ahead of other services in their own search parameters might have some weight to it. But, then again, Google services are rather good, so it's not inconceivable that those services are listed high because they actually belong there.

MS gave you choices of browser on setup. If you wanted Opera, you chose it on install. This killed the "you need IE to view this site" thanks be.

There were ways to deny IE, especially if you didn't use MS products. I had the equivalent of 98 Lite which did not allow IE to run. I use mainly Adobe and WordPerfect. If I have to I will use Open or Libre Office. Since it's only for personal reasons, I don't have to bother with MS Office.

Apple had to fix so businesses could use Apple computers with Office and IE. Banking websites were notorious for only accepting IE. So were some AV companies. I went with ESET since they were one of the few who did NOT need IE. (They still don't)
Some demand that you sync with Outlook. Safari alone wouldn't do that, then. Even if you only used Apple for Graphic design, you still had to sync into office servers for mail, etc.

MS giving you a browser choice was driven by the United States Department of Justice.

I'm against intellectual property theft.

I'm also against our patent system that got terribly broken in the dot com days. Once upon a time, getting a patent was difficult for a good reason. My first (successful) one took a long time to pursue.

This year, someone got a patent for toasting bread. The system is really that broken.

Microsoft got their networking working by ripping off BSD code and lying through their teeth about it.

Now they cash in on whacked patents saying Linux rips off their stuff.

The patent system was designed originally to protect inventors, not let lawyers find new language to restrict development.

If you think Microsoft is getting money for anything past software toast here, think again.

If you think this is new behavior for them, think again.

In my opinion. :) ;)

Lol agreed 100%. Another ridiculous patent? Someone patented a "method and systems for Making a snowman".... WTF??:confused::rolleyes:

In Europe, I think Opera brought the suit. Opera ran on almost any damn platform/language you could think of at first. Since Opera is Norwegian, it had a large following in the EU. Once MS had to kowtow to the EU, we got rid of IE. Opera started the suit while 98SE was popular. When Opera first was available here, it was ad supported or pay for. I bought it and dropped NN.

Web designers if they weren't lazy used Opera to check their work. Opera was the most compliant browser to the standards of coding set by the World Wide Web Consortium.
