Another Firmware Update UK

Excellent, thanks everyone for their help! I have an unbranded phone :-) hurray for the brightness option in the notifications!

It should also now charge to 100% and seems to last a lot longer on standby! Plus lots of other tweaks and fixes. :-)

I noticed something that I don't like :(

In Contacts in the Favourites tab, the phone button has gone. any workarounds for this?

What version?

Its there on BLFB on mine, although only in favourites, not in contacts itself.

Did you know on each contact, swipe right to call, swipe left to send an SMS?

Or open the contact and put the phone to your ear, calls the contact?

These are both as many button presses / touches as having that phone button.

Yes, I do not expect it to come up in Contacts. Only in favourites.

Yes, swipe left/right seems to work with the default number you set (if you have multiple for a given contact).

Model is as follows:

GT-I9300
Android version: 4.04
Baseband version: I9300XXLG8
Build number: xxxxxx.I9300XXBLG8

It's annoying though, as I'm used to using that phone button since Gingerbread. Anyone else experiencing the same issue?

Ok I haven't gone to that build yet. But anyway, like I said - that telephone button is useless

are you branded? vodafone/o2/orange/3/tmobile? if so any OTA updates that Samsung releases will not be available to you until your carrier/service provider releases it to you.

WHen I check for s/w updates, I get this message:

Access to the software update service is prvided to users in the order in which they request it. Please try later.

Is this normal? I am on version XLFB

I was getting this same message. Clicked the update a few times but nothing. The next morning the update was showing for install.

Unfortunately I have a t-mobile handset and am still waiting for them to get their act together and release the latest firmware.

Hope they do it soon.

Why not do as others on this thread have done, and flash the latest stock unbranded firmware, then you will be up to date and able to automatically receive new updates when they are released, instead of waiting forever for your carrier to stop dragging its heels?

Simply because it voids the warranty provided by t-mobile. As soon as you root or change the firmware yourself then you are on your own and with 23 mons on a contract to go I would prefer to keep the warranty.

All you have to do is flash back an original branded t-mobile firmware and they will never know you had changed it. I did the same when I returned my S3 to 3UK.

Before I upgraded, I made a note of the exact version of the firmware on my phone, then downloaded a copy of that firmware just in case I ever needed to return it to its original state. Before returning it for warranty replacement I flashed the original 3 firmware and that was it.

The phone runs so much better with original firmware on . It's faster and there's more options . Get rid of the branding it just slows it down and stops you doing certain things

I like the idea of it running faster - although from what I can see it does not have any branding on it at all - only thing it does not have the update software menu - thats all.

However,

can you supply a very, very simple (and i do mean simple) guide on what to do - what software you need - what is happening when you use certain bits of software etc.

and the most important where to get the right firmware options (including the original one that is already on my phone)

my phone currently says:
version 4.0.4
baseband version I9300BVLF2
Kernal version 3.0.15-687481-user
build number IMM76D.I9300BVALF4

Kies shows the latest firmware as PDA:LF4 / Phone:LF2 / CSC:LF2 (TMU)

Here is a guide to flashing firmware. You will need to download and install Odin on your PC; there is a download link on the page. You also need to make sure you have the drivers installed, and the easiest way is to download and install Kies.

[Guide+ROMS]Odin Flash+Root Guide & Stock Firmwares LE4/6/8/9/F/D, LF1/2 - xda-developers

The main instructions begin with the big red title Flashing Firmware with Odin. Follow the instructions from 1 to 8. It is nice and easy as there are screenshots. :) If you read the preliminary stuff it is very informative.

The latest firmware is available here from the first download link (for I9300XXBLG8):

[Stock Official Firmwares] I9300XXBLG8 (4.0.4) - United Kingdom (BTU) [27-07-12] - xda-developers

The original t-mobile firmware that will return you back to where you are can be found here, but you will need to register to download:

SamMobile Firmware Page

I just checked my phone after the latest download and it looks like its the stock firmware. I bought my phone from Phones 4U and my service provider is Vodafone.

I assume because I did not buy from Vodafone the phone is unbranded or have I got this all wrong?
