Another Firmware Update UK

I just checked my phone after the latest download and it looks like its the stock firmware. I bought my phone from Phones 4U and my service provider is Vodafone.

I assume because I did not buy from Vodafone the phone is unbranded or have I got this all wrong?

That's exactly right.

davoid thanks for the good reply

Looked at the links - does not look too difficult - just have to pluck up the nerve to do the update.

Out of interest do I need to change the CSC? one of the links you sent ([Stock Official Firmwares] I9300XXBLG8 (4.0.4) - United Kingdom (BTU) [27-07-12] - xda-developers) then gives instructions on changing the SCS - although this is for the Galaxy S and SII so don't know if I need to change this as the other link does not mention it at all.

Also good to see that this process does not need a rooted device

Thanks. designerbob

No you don't need to mess with the CSC as it's a UK firmware :)

Once you've mustered the courage and done it, you'll feel pleased with yourself.

Then you'll think... why not root then? Flashing was easy... ;)

EDIT: You will only need to change the CSC if Kies doesn't recognize the phone as valid for updates.

Well took the plunge - actually a lot easier than I was expecting.

Phone booted back with all my settings intact - basically don't need to do a thing.

Only interesting point was after the first restart I got the message "android upgrading - optimising applications 1 of 95" did all 95 and then started up

I may decide to do a factory reset just to get a very clean start.

Thanks. all

Ok, so my S3 has just updated itself from firmware version LFB to LG8.

Other than the addition of forward and back arrow buttons at the top of the stock browser screen, I can't see much difference... anything else I should look out for, or was this update mainly system improvements & bug-fixes?

Apparently it's fixed an issue with headphone audio crackling when phone went into deep sleep. :)

is there a full list of what the firmware added/improved?

Unfortunately it has not fixed the widget refresh issue. When coming back from the message app some of the widgets take a little extra time to show up - really hoped that was going to be fixed in this update :-(

Question is - do I go back to Apex or stay with TouchWiz

On the plus side - at least I now get all the updates directly from samsung and don't have to wait for t-mobile

Also - sorry about all the questions - Kies now says that it cannot check or do the firmware upgrades - is this normal?

Hi All,

My firmware at present is LFB, and since I upgraded to that my TouchWiz keeps crashing. Only way to get it back is to delete the data file which in turn starts the phone screen from scratch meaning I have to re-load all my widgets etc, which a little annoying to say the least.

Anyone know if LG8 fixs this problem???

Is this correct after installing the I9300XXBLG8_I9300OXABLG8_I9300XXLG8_HOME.tar.md5 update?

As mentioned earlier - I was on t-mobile branded firmware - used odin to install the above firmware for the UK to make it totally unbranded?

Now when I go into Kies I get the following message:

"Your device does not support software upgrading via Kies"

The firmware version looks like the one I installed (BLG8) however the CSC says LG8(KOR)? is this right? Have I gone wrong somewhere?

I think it might help to change the CSC to BTU (instead of KOR).

To do that:

get your IMEI ready. It's on the box the phone came in, or dial *#06#

Open the Dialer.

Dial *#272*[insert your IMEI here]# (omit the square brackets [] )

This will bring up the SCS Chooser.

Choose BTU

Then Kies should hopefully recognize the phone as valid.

EDIT: WARNING this process will factory reset...

Just tried it - yes resets the phone - bugger - just put everything back on it

However - bingo - Kies now working and allows updates (when available)

BTU was the problem - thanks.

It will factory reset, yes. But then your phone will be set to the correct region code.

So make sure you have stuff backed up.

EDIT: darn, not fast enough.

davoid - thanks for all your help - luckily everthing was all backed up

Just getting contact icons set up again.

Pity the update did not fix the refresh issue - however, apex launcher does not seem to suffer from that.

Hi guys, just signed up as I really need a bit of help. I have a galaxy s3 network locked to tmobile (branded). I just flashed the latest firmware for tmobile s3's which is LF2. I want to flash the stock firmware and de-brand my phone. I've read the tutorial on what to do with odin etc and that's fine. Not too bothered about the voiding warranty as I'll probably end up rooting my phone anyway in the future.

My only concern is that does the s3 need to be network unlocked to flash the stock firmware LG8 ? I rang t-mobile uk and explained about there's no option to upgrade software in the phones settings and that samsung has put out multiple firmware updates which I'm yet to recieve due to my phone being branded. She said she can get me unlocked but it has to go through samsung which costs

HI

I bought a Gal S3 from on the Three network from a phone shop but had to get it unlocked to use it on the Vodafone. which was fine, i updated it via Kie's to Ver 4.0.4 but it now was asking for unlock code again. i took it a local shop who flashed it with a ROM and it began to work, but now i cant update to Ver 4.1.1

if i were to flash back to the orginal ROM could i update OTA or Via Kies and also if i follow the above it comes up with a "preconfig" screen and a sales code of H3G? should i chage this BTU?

any help to get back with the latest fireware.

Thanks in advance...
