Root Another Gingervillain 1.7 issue - WiFi

Once again, as I can't post in the XDA development threads, I must ask this here, I'm afraid.

I just installed GV1.7, which was working great up until now. I can't get the WiFi to work... it turns on, but doesn't scan and says my home WiFi is out of range when I'm sitting on the sofa above the router.

I know I've done something wrong here, but can anyone refresh my memory?

I have a similiar problem in that my WiFi is just a lot weaker than before I used GV.. hopefully someone can help us both!

Ah, mine's sorted itself out, but melonbaps' problem most likely persists. So I'm good or now. :)

No problems with WiFi here (GV v1.7). The phone connects withing a few seconds to my home network, after switching WiFi On.
Using WiFi Analyzer may point out signal strength issues.

Install wifi manager from the market (blue tower with circle waves icon), and click "radar", I had issues with this on my older phone and realized someone else's router is in the same channel as mine so I moved the channel on my router's config and since then it hasn't been an issue.

Yep, that could be indeed an issue. By default many routers broadcast on channel 1, and if you are on a thick network, the others may suppress your signal.
Both Wifi Manager and WiFi Analyzer can shows you your channel position. WiFi Analyzer comes with an extra analog funny signal meter.

Mine has started playing up since I upgraded from 1.6 to 1.7, but not done a full wipe yet, only flashed as an upgrade.

Issue is wifi turns on, finds the network, assigns ip address then stops. The wifi icon in the taskbar stays white, probably or around 30 seconds, then eventually goes green and everything starts to work.

I used to have this problem before gv 1.3 or something..later on everything is ok

Actually I was going to suggest the opposite: try flashing one of the most recent (2.0d) GV kernels, which are supposed to have a fix for some people's WiFi problems.

I personally find 1.7 no different from any previous GV for WiFi. I did find GV 2.0d perhaps a little better in my office, where WiFi is a bit dodgy, but too fond of the EViollet kernel's battery life and faster usb transfer speed, so have stuck with that.
