Another GPS Power Question

I know that there are 3 methods used by Locations Services - wifi, mobile net, satellite. I understand that, of the 3, GPS consumes the most power. But I assume that Locations Services would lay dormant, thus using no power from any of the methods, unless there's an app that needs them.

Other than the obvious - e.g. Google Maps, are there that many apps running in the background using Locations Services without you knowing?

Thanks.

Many apps want to know where you are at. Anything to do with driving like traffic apps, web browsers apps, running apps that track your excersizing like Runtastic and such do as well. Google sky map uses it and other star charting apps. Compass apps often use it if they support location. Weather apps use it to know which city you are in. List goes on and on.

For the most part the GPS stuff is only used every once in a while. unless you are using something obvious like navigator the phone only activates the GPS about once a minute or so for about a half sec. Unlike previous phones there is not much of a power drain from the GPSs.

The S3 also supports the Russian "glonass" gps system in addition to the USA one for more accurate and faster location settings.
