Greetings to one and all:
I'm here looking for info on consolidating my cell phone bill and internet bill. I thought that by buying a smart-phone and using it as an internet modem I might be able to do just that.
So far the informal online research I've done seem to indicate that it is possible. If I haven't misinformed myself, that would mean that I could cut the combined amount that I'm spending on internet access and cell phone bills by more than half.
I'm presently looking for easy to understand information about "Tethering" and how or if it may effect my data usage/bill. I'm also looking for information on any security risk involved in this kind of usage.
I've been using Dump-Phones all this time and this will be my first foray into the "Smart-Phone" arena.
I'm mainly a Mac computer guy but I do use PCs for work and hobby.
Any suggestions on the most useful easy-to-use and install tethering app? I've looked at most of the ones that are available and somehow I keep coming back to the PdaNet app.
Input from those with hands-on knowledge would be a big help.
I have to tell you all, I have yet to order the Android smart phone I've had my eye on. I figured I'd hold off until I got a little more info first. Preferably input from hand-on users.
Just to get my feet wet, I have narrowed my carrier down to Virgin Mobile. Once I get some smart phone experience under my belt I'll either stay with them or move on to a better carrier. (if there is such a thing.)
With the money I hope to save it will allow me to move to a slightly more expensive carrier.
Your input would be appreciated.
