Help Answered: Phone not responsive when plugged into wall adapter

There have been a couple of threads here about this issue (Including mine...) that were asking for help. Instead of going through all of those threads and posting my findings, I figured I'd make a thread for the purpose of identifying the problem.

Issue: When plugging phone into the wall charger, touch screen becomes unresponsive or just plain laggy as hell. Unplugging the phone instantly resolves this issue. Also, in my case, tipping the plug that is in the phone one direction or another partially fixes it, though still a bit laggy/unresponsive.

After doing some testing with a couple friends with Androids, I have figured it out. The Adapter that I was using didn't have the correct Output settings.

Input: 100-240 V AC
Output: 5V 1A

Swapping it out with another adapter that has:

Input: 100-240V AC
Output: 5V 850 mA

This resolved the problem 100%. I hope this helps somebody, as I've been dealing with this on my OG Droid for the last 3 months.

NOTE: I may just be crazy as well, and maybe my adapter is just broken. Either way, a different adapter cured me.

If this needs to be combined with another thread or what not, a MOD can delete this and I can add the notes to the thread. Just wanted a thread OP to have all the information.

I've had this issue with the TB while its plugged in as well...Have never experienced this with any of my other Android phones...As soon as you take it off the charger, it snaps out of its coma.

Linked here from another thread... after checking my AC adapters, I do have one that is "generic" but also have three that are straight from HTC, and this problem is happening with all the adapters -- including the adapter that came in the Thunderbolt box. Ugh.

Just to reiterate my post from the other thread...

I would like to add my two cents to this issue...

I noticed the UI sluggishness right away and it's *always* only when the unit is plugged into AC. At first it seemed the problem only occurred when the unit was fully charged and still plugged in, but it also happens when the unit is <100% and charging.

The issue is quite annoying and I can easily reproduce the problem by simply plugging/unplugging the AC adapter. What I find strange is not only is the UI sluggish but it seems I actually have to press *harder* for a button press to take effect. It's not a *time* or *duration* issue for me. Meaning, it's not a matter of me having to hold the button press longer - I have to physically press harder.

Anyway, was Googling around to see if I could find others having this same problem and glad I found this thread.

This issue occurs for me using the one that came with the phone. The issue does not happen when I charge it via a USB port on a computer however, and that is my primary method of charging.

I too suffer from Tbolt comatose.... i noticed that it helps when i disconnect and reconnect my tbolt from computer. Seems to revive it but never feels as fluid like when its not connected.

I have seen alot of folks have this problem with after market chargers..

BUT

I have this problem with my manufacturer included charger with the HTC logo on it, AND it only happens(always happens) when the charge is reaching 90+%.

I can use it fine up to about 89% and them blamo, it is unresponsive until I unplug it. any ideas?
