answering phone when locked

Have a new samsung 4 g phone that when locked and get phone call an answer symbol and hang up symbol appear on screen but will not allow me to push symbol to answer. I try to unlock, but screen just goes black. Cannot figure out how to answer.

Try swiping the answer circle upward, and diagonally. Samsung is tricky 'til you get the hang of it.

Its swiped to the opposite side of the screen. The answer button appears at the left side of the screen, you press on it (a green circle enlarges from the button like on the lockscreen), then you drag it across to the right side of the screen. Similar but opposite operation for the hang up.
