Need, no.
There are no true viruses for Android. There is malware, but as long as you are careful where you get apps from (clue: anywhere pirating apps is likely to contain malware) and check that the app's permissions are sensible before installing you should be ok.
Get one if it gives you peace of mind, but the precautions I outlined above still apply in any case
