Needed or not needed on a rooted or not rooted android device? Also pros and cons of using antivirus software on a android device? I'm all about speed And I don't want to use a antivirus unless its necessary.
If necessary any suggestions for a good one which uses little ram as possible?

I have been utilizing ESET Mobile Security & Antivirus for many years and has never hindered the operation of my Android devices. I am non-rooted, I also utilize common sense online security protocols, always check the permissions before installation, and checkout the Developer/s.

I use Lookout and Droidwall. Lookout scans for malware and checks apps that are running, as well as having a couple other security features such as taking a photo and sending location data to your email if someone tries to guess your lockscreen three times. I've never run across an issue but it is worth being prepared since I did not notice any performance/battery hits from it. Droidwall works as a firewall and controls what can and can't communicate

I've been using Android for about 3 years and until recently not had any Virus issues. Shortly after starting up, the SD card on my S3 suddenly started 'Unmounting' and I was unable to access it. Then my battery started draining at about 3 times the speed. I put the SD card into a Reader and attached to PC and ran my anti virus on the card. This detected and removed the following Trojan Horse virus: TrojanDownloader:Win32/Dofoil.D. I reformatted the SD card and replaced in my phone and at the moment all is working well.

I hope this may be useful to others and U also hope I have posted this in the correct place. If not then I apologise.
