Any Android OS Updates?

I've seen a few news articles like that over the last couple of months.. one mentioned it in a youtube news vid also. Somehow I don't think mobile carriers really give a hoot.

I know it's suggsted ad nauseam, but if you root your phone you can flash gingerbread roms and won't have to worry about official OS updates that probably won't come. And if they do come they'll still be saddled with stuff you can't uninstall taking up a good chunk of phone memory. I was reluctant to root for a while but did so about a month ago and it's almost like having a brand new phone.
