Any App to Make Notifications in Calendar Work?

For some reason my Samsung Galaxy II doesn't do anything to "Remind" me when I have set it to do so in the calendar function. I've searched everywhere for a setting, but am now just looking for an app that might make it work. I can set it for 5 minutes, 2 hours, 1 day, or customize, but it does nothing when those times arrive. I've missed several important meetings because of it.

Are you checking the box for "All day event"? That can cause issues with proper notification, so make sure it is not checked.

Thanks for suggestion. I do not check the box and I assume the default in unchecked so that won't help. I DL an app called "Loud Notifications" and that seems to have done the trick. I hope the Galaxy 3 has fewer glitches. The various glitches amost made me miss the iphone, but after seeing that little toy in my local Best buy, I am very happy with my choice.
