I just made the same switch myself. After having very stable battery life on my 4S I was concerned about battery use on the S3. I am happy to say that so far I have had no problems. Battery life has been very solid with pretty heavy usage. I'll know more as the week goes on but right now I am more than pleased.

I'm really liking the GS3 so far!
The good: I have had the last 3 iPhones and I worried I would not be able to switch to an Android (I've tried other Androids, Blackberry and WP and always go back to iPhone). I'm not having any lag. No freeze-ups so far. The battery life has been AT LEAST as good as my iPhone 4S, if not better. I was able to dl AT&Ts visual voicemail app so I'm not missing anything there. I used iSyncr to transfer my iTunes music (I tried using Kies for that but I couldn't get it to show me playlists from iTunes, just individual songs) and it worked beautifully. I have always used Google for email, calendar and contacts even though I've been an iPhone gal so that was a slam dunk. I'm not seeing any difference in screen resolution from my 4S. Maybe if I put them side-by-side I would. IDK. The GS3 screen looks great to me! Finally, the sound quality with headphones is just as good as my 4S! Thats very important to me. I tried a Nokia Lumia and with my Bose headphones I could hear a hiss when the song was quiet or inbetween songs. Thats definately a no-go for me!
The bad: I did have some songs in iTunes that were still protected. Out of my >3000 songs in iTunes, I only keep about 1200 on my phone so the amount of protected songs I had to snag from another source was about 10-12. No biggie. I actually find the screen to be a smidge too big. I'm short and have short fingers so I have found myself fumbling at times to one-hand the phone in the car on occasion. However, I would rather have a screen thats a smidge too big than a screen thats a smidge too small (iPhone is just too dang small, lets face it).
I am not regretting my switch to the GS3. I would be really suprised if Apple was able to pull something out of their hat that would make me switch back to iPhone in the Fall.

Is anyone else having trouble getting texts from other iphone users that use iMessage? My daughters both have iPhones - one 4 and the other a 4s. While I was waiting for the G3 to come out, I had an iPhone 4s. So, we sent texts back and forth via iMessage. I activated my G3 on Friday, and I just glanced at my iphone, which is now in the Bose sound dock pretending to be an ipod, and I had messages from one of my daughters. I followed some steps that I found to unregister my iphone from my apple account... but does anyone else have any ideas? Lots of people I message with have iPhones, and of course I don't want to miss their texts.

Thanks dfran1...I'll give it a try later. The main downside is that I'll have to upgrade to OSX Lion...I've been avoiding that as I'm worried (a) that PhotoShop and Illustrator will not run properly, and (b) it'll be crap (slow, unresponsive etc etc etc) as many reports I've read have said!
I realize this thread is about the S3, but I'm a Razr Maxx user of a couple months (came from an iPhone 4) and I am seriously contemplating selling my Droid and going back to Apple.
Someone mentioned it earlier, but I think the key is just convenience. I don't NOT like my Maxx, it's just not my iPhone...does that make sense??

I agree 100% Mine is doing better than my 4s and I also do not tweak to save battery.

Was Android for years. Switched to iPhone 4s late last year. Got an S3 yesterday. I think both offer way different experiences which each have plenty of strengths and weaknesses:
S3 pros compared to a 4s (much of which is just general Android pros):
Big screen
Great feel - I never liked the hard edges of the 4s.
Swype - I prefer a one-handed typing experience. The 4s is no good there.
Google maps - even paid apps like Navigon can't compete, IMO. So easy.
Android customization - don't have to jailbreak/root to take advantage of, mostly.
Widgets & Shortcuts - insanely more options here than iOS.
4G - I am VZW so this is a big one - anytime I was around thousands of people my 4s had no internet practically
S3 cons compared to 4s:
Screen in daylight - a definite step down from the 4s
Buttons - all the buttons (physical and capacitive) are too easily pushed
All in all, I can really only think of these two negatives compared to my 4s, and neither of those are deal breakers. Android is more work up front than iOS is, if you want to have similar features like iCloud and such. But I think it is worth it for all the pros I list plus many more.
Although I must admit that an iPhone of the same size with 4G and something as good as Google maps would seriously tempt me back. If you are truly on the fence it might be worth waiting to see what the iPhone 5 has to offer, assuming it's coming in the next few months.

Personally ive been a android and samsung fan for years. We also have an ipad and a iphone 4s. There has been a lot of misunderstanding and/or misinformation about both phones. I will say this though, ive never said "god damn samsung " when using their phone..i say that daily when using apple. My favorite feature on the samsung is how i can connect it to my tv and blue ray player and use it like a brain for my devices.

Hey, on your deactivated iphone.... Put it on wifi, go to settings->messages and turn off the imessage option. Although you removed the account via the web, your iPhone still believes it should be receiving messages and is reporting to other iPhones that you have imessage enabled. I ran into this when I went from my iPhone 4 to the Atrix 2. Made sure I turned it off on my 4S before going to the GS3 this time and it worked flawlessly!

I was with iOS since 2007 with the first iPhone. Camped out for every phone on launch day up to the 4S. Also have a full range of Apple products at the house. All Mac computers, no PC's, Apple TV's, a couple of iPads, a couple of iPods. My wife had the new iPhone 5 but after scuffing it in her scrubs shirt the first day she had it and scratching it all to crap with her wedding ring on the second day, she exchanged it and had me put her 4S back on the account. We are selling the 5 on ebay right now.
I have had the S3 for about 2 weeks.
Anyway, there wasn't much of a learning curve for the most part. All smart phones pretty much do the same stuff. I did have to hunt around for some settings but many setting are actually easier to get to in the S3.
I am still getting used to the extra screen real estate. Texting is getting faster slowly but accuracy is way better because I must have fat thumbs and I hit the wrong letters on the iPhone a lot.
Screen size can't compare. The S3 for me wins hands down. I switched because I wanted a bigger screen and when the iPhone5 didn't deliver, I jumped ship. Everything is just better on a bigger screen. And I mean everything. My primary use for my S3 is everything it can do except make calls. I only use about 20 minutes of call time of my 1200 per month.
Took me an evening screwing with it to get my calendar to sync but that wasn't the phone's fault, it was my calendar settings on my Mac. Now it works perfectly.
I can say for sure, plastic or not, the quality of the S3 is way better than the iP5. That thing sucked. It took opening up 5 phones at the store when my wife took her's back to find one that wasn't damaged right out of the box.
One thing....the iPhone just works. It's simple with less bells and whistles. What it does, it does very well but it really lacks many features. One thing that bugged me was not being able to assign my own sounds for different things like text, email, facebook, etc. It's very easy to do on the S3. The iPhone comes with the stupidest set of tones on the planet. I mean who really sets their text tone to the dog barking or the horn honking?
And then there is the simple issue of putting my icons where I want them. Why is it that Apple forces everything in line from top to bottom? Why can't I have 4 at the top and 4 at the bottom and nothing in between? It's silly I know, but that bugs the crap out of me. Mark all mail as read is another bother. You can't do it on the iPhone. Text sounds, icon movement and mark mail are 3 of the top things I jailbroke all my iDevices for.
But the S3 isn't without it's drawbacks either. Getting MMS pictures as a slideshow with no way to zoom in on the picture or even see it full screen is a pain in the ass. I hate that. Also the MMS video size send limit is way too small. I have found it impossible to send any video I have shot yet.
Overall, I love the S3 even with me being an Apple FanBoy.

First, with iOS just catching up to Android 4.04, I would not worry about "a dated OS". The point here that ICS is still likely more advanced than iOS 6. In addition, Samsung has just announced that it will be updating both S3 and S2 to JB; the process has begun in Europe and it would likely be complete in the US by the end of this year.

Hi, I bought my s3 last week and the screen is very good, but I prefer my old Iphone 4s, due to I am the only one between my friends who owns the s3 and either because The Apple design and Interface are better (I'm not kidding). if I had not sold my iPhone, sure I would continue with it.

If you're on AT&T, install their Visual Voicemail app. Requires a few steps to set it up, but it's easy and it works.

I have had other anodized things that didn't scuff so easy. Personally based on my knowledge in my field, I think the anodizing process was goofed up. Either the wrong mix, too thin, wrong voltage, improper cleaning....I don't know. I would lean toward contaminated cleaning solution though. The denting...well they made it as thin and light as they can and put it in a unibody. It just dents easy. I think they should have used a hardened aluminum but it could have made it more costly to produce or more brittle.
I like my other Apple products. Aside from my real life I also am an amateur videographer and shoot a lot of off road videos and edit them. Also use lots of video for my training sessions so I shoot and edit all of that too. All done on a Mac. Nothing I have used has been as good for that than a Mac. I'll keep those.
And I love my Apple TV. But I will be adding a new TV to the house in 2 weeks when we move and it will be a Samsung smart TV so the Apple TV might not be so important.

I come from the iPhone crowd as well, owning first the 3G, then the 4G, but have used them since the very first iPhone via several friends prior to getting my own. I love the iPhone, and they made me never want to go back to a regular cell phone. Smartphones all the way for me.
Just this past weekend, I switched to the S3 because of two reasons...
1) The new iPhone 5 doesn't impress, nor does iOS6, and the phone feels cheap
2) The S3 is claimed to be the best (latest and greatest) phone out on the market right now
The S3 is a great phone indeed, but its battery life totally sucks and keeps me from really enjoying the phone. Because the battery drains so damn fast, I make sure to send text messages quickly, jump to the Task Manager to swipe everything off, and keep wifi and everything else off, then turn the phone off. It's ridicules.
I can't see how some of you claim to be getting 2-3 days out of a single charge.

I'm well aware of the tips, have done them, and nothing. I also use Juice Defender and Easy Battery Saver, either separately or together, and still nothing. Even installing the latest AT&T 82mb update yesterday morning did nothing.
I use the stock Task Manager (holding the home button down for a couple seconds) and swipe all of the open apps closed. I can't see how that would cause more damage than good.
I've read a little about these wake locks, but don't know anything about them. Seems like you need certain apps or even rooting to fix them. I'm not going to root my phone.
