Any ideas how to switch off this annoyance or shall I just bin this POS phone?

My phone has the very annoying habit of minimizing the window instead of closing the app.

what phone do you have? and that is normal for google maps. if you back out of the app, it will do the picture in picture feature which i believe you can get to from your phone's settings.

on my z fold 3, i can get to it by going to settings>apps>select the three dots at the top right>select special access>picture in picture

Nope. This is not a Google maps, I never seen it before and it also minimises with Chrome if it's playing a video and try to close it. Very annoying, it takes forever to close stuff instead of one click. I'll prolly just get rid of this pos

I wonder whether "if it's playing a video" is important here.

The only thing I've ever seen that with is Maps during navigation (and what you are showing there looks a lot like some navigation app), but I don't use Chrome at all (I disable it) and rarely watch videos on a phone, so it may just be that I'm not doing what you are doing. In which case I'd try to fix this rather than change phones in case you go to the expense and end up with the same issue because you are still doing the same thing.

Try searching your settings for "picture-in-picture" (or look in Settings > Apps > Advanced > Special App Access > Picture-in-picture if you have an recent Android OS that's not been heavily modified by the manufacturer). That will show you which apps request this feature and which are allowed it. Try turning it off for the apps that are annoying you and see whether it helps.

Otherwise search the particular app's settings to see whether there is something you can do there.
