Any ideas on how I can get my domain name?

It bothers me that I don't own my domain named on the Internet. It's owned by another guy who is well over 5 bills and has been using the site for a personal blog that he's not updated since 2008. So I want to steal this domain. When people google me I don't want them to see a 500 lb guy and think that's me.

I had hoped the domain would expire and I could steal it. It was set to expire in late February of this year, but the guy renewed it until 2013. I hate to contact him as I'm afraid of tipping my hand. He knows that I want it. He may charge me an arm and a leg (which he may then eat given his size). Does anyone know a way to get my name on the web?

If it hasn't been updated in a couple of years, the suggestions above will work in your favor. Most SEO rec's will mention recent activity. It's probably not worth trying to 'buy' your name from him.

For most people the top level domain is pretty meaningless anymore. If you can't get .COM, you could always try to get .US or .NET (as mentioned above) or .BIZ or a whole bunch of other TLD's.

Nowadays lots of businesses will use an alternative TLD and some will go out of their way to buy up every available TLD.

My domain is a .ORG which, under the circumstances, might be appropriate since I don't seem to make a profit anymore. Between the woman, the toys, and the IRS I've sadly become a non-profit individual... :eek:

I'm definitely not a .biz. If I am, I'm not a successful one. I could go with a .us I guess. It just bothers me that someone else owns my name. I'm half tempted to purchase .xxx just on the fear that some porn star will come along with that name. If you google me and come up with a porn star it can make finding employment difficult.

How about .KP? Not many using that, should get name of choice very easily. I've thought of registering my name .CN. Certainly can't get .COM or .NET with it, or .CO.UK for that matter.

TBH I don't think there is any difference between .COM, .NET and .ORG these days. All the good names have gone long ago. They certainly have nothing to do with their original purposes. I'm a member of a very large and successful forum that's on .NET. The forum certainly has nothing to do with networking.

In a case like this I would go with something similar;
BobWilson_¢$NAMEHERE$.com if that's not workable tell the fat fudge that if he doesn't surrender the com or you'll have your hacker friends take all his money and produce documentation proving he is dead. that should made things interesting. I would no send anything from personal or work computer. :D
