Help Any ideas what this is?

So I have Samsung Galaxy S5 and this has been happening since a recent update but I have no idea why. I've restarted my phone numerous times but after a while it just occurs again, in particular on my lock screen as it's a pass code but now it's coming up when displaying error messages too.

Is this occurring for anybody else? and is there a fix available?

I hope I've posted this in the right place!

First thing to try is a cache clear.
Power down your phone, now press & hold the power button, volume up & the home button until your phone boots into Recovery. Now use the volume rocker to select Wipe Cache. Hit the power button to make it happen - give it a sec to clear the cache. Now use the volume rocker to select Reboot System - hit the power button & run you phone for a bit. See if this helps

Thanks for the advice. I had actually done this a day after this started happening after scouring Google for advice about three weeks ago? Lots of apps kept crashing/closing too so I ended up doing a reset and installing from backup.

Like I said a simple reset is a temporary fix but after locking the phone a few times it happens again. I'm just stumped on what else to do!

it could very well be an appp not interacting well with lollipop. that is to say a third party app that you downloaded even after you factory reset you probably downloaded all the same apps again and one or more might be causing your trouble.

I only really installed contacts and photos from backup rather than apps. Saying that I have very few apps on my phone anyway minus FB, Twitter, IG, WhatsApp. Third party apps are at a minimum!

A few months back, I was also getting an overlay that wanted me to click on a link. Don't recall the message anymore...

None of the virus programs found anything.
MalwareBytes and other stuff like that came up zippo.

I uninstalled all of the apps that I had installed....
all to no avail....

finally, I just did a FDR and started all over from scratch.
That "fixed it" because the phone was totally reformatted and rebuilt from OEM factory status.

I was a bit put out about it, but nothing else worked.

Hmmm, that's a looks like a font isn't displaying properly. Perhaps it was corrupted during the update? Do you know what the update was from>to? It's a bit of a process, but I'd recommend flashing the factory firmware. If something is corrupt in the system, then a factory reset won't fix it.
