So far I've tried three SIP compatible apps (3CX, SipDroid and CSipSimple) on my Galaxy S unrooted with 2.2 but none of them has given satisfactory call quality. Sipdroid had a bug where the sound came out of the rear speaker and fed back as an echo and although this is fixed I find with all of them that the called party complains that it's a bad quality line and there's usually some level of echo too.
I use a Draytel subscription as my main phone number at home with a Siemens Gigabit IP phone and it works perfectly. You wouldn't know it wasn't an ordinary fixed-line phone so I don't think it's the supplier. I've tried most of the options. Some have an echo cancellation option or silence detection but it doesn't seem to make much difference.
I'm not talking about Skype or other closed, proprietary options. Just SIP apps that can be configured for any provider. I have a geographic number with my provider that I want to keep.
I suppose my first question is: what should I expect? Does anyone get a really clear line using a SIP app (on any Android phone for that matter) or is the platform simply not up to it? If anyone is happy with their set up please let us know and give details.
Thanks.
