Any MMA fans here?

Who's excited for Jones vs Sonnen? It's gonna be a good card imho.

I used to love watching the old PRIDE legends (Fedor, Cro Cop, Wandy, Shogun etc) but the UFC went on to become a very good MMA organisation and is definitely the gold standard overall.

I don't know if i agree with that but the judging criteria certainly needs changing.

Have you seen or did you watch any of the first UFC PPVs in the mid 90s? There were no weight classes, no time limits, no judges, no rounds. A free for all compared to what is now.

Believe me, it was wild and alot more fun to watch. None of the holding contests you see sometimes now.

It's subjective, back then it was honestly a freak show. The sport needed to be regulated in order to move forward. I've watched PRIDE FC, the rules were different to unified MMA.

To each their own. I just don't like the holding contests/snoozefests.

Neither do I.

But the early UFC and even early Vale Tudo fights were not ever meant to be long-term, the sport needed to evolve in order to progress. The fact that the UFC was banned from television and relegated to PPV in the 90s shows the negative image that it portrayed and without the effort of Dana White and the Fertita's to help legalise the sport in most of the U.S. states then we wouldn't have MMA where it is now. Now we have proper athletes competing in proper weight classes and regulated by athletic comissions. Freak show fights can only last for so long.

I own all of the UFC & Pride DVDs & tapes. The early UFC action was often insane -true. There were several snoozefests. Back then, you remember how long matches could last? There were several matches that were 30 minutes of a man in another man's guard, making no progress. Such would not be tolerated today; they would be reset ("stood up").

He shouldn't have been playing around. Dumb move. He got caught but I still think he's the better fighter. He's probably bored with it all.:D

My jaw dropped when I saw him get clipped and start falling lol. If you look carefully he made a funny face just before he hit the ground.
