Any new Verizon Androids before January?

this next phone is simply called the 'second high-end android phone' from verizon. basically, if your not happy with the 2year old eris hardware or the droids form, you will now have another option, although it will be in the 'high end' as the droid is. as for your comment about being 'SOL' with the eris, there's always gonna be something bigger/faster/more advanced coming out - don't play the waiting game for too long or you'll get something and then the next something will come out and itll be endless. get something your satisfied with and stick to it. as for release dates are concerned.. the 'very early 2010' for another android phone is close, in fact, i heard from reliable people that there is one more android phone coming out in january and that it will be by htc. of course, no one knows FOR CERTAIN because the competition in the mobile business is fierce right now. but im not going to be surprised when i see a another verizon android in january.

personally, i was not aware of certain things about the eris that i am now familiar with. (particularly hardware and SENSE issues).. i am taking my phone back within a week or two and going back to my LG for a couple weeks until i made a more thorough decision (which will either be the droid -- open source ftw -- or the new phone that will be coming out). so maybe u have an older phone u been using prior to the eris u can use if ur 30 days run out and ur waiting a week for a new phone?

My biggest issue is the screen size. I'm just not digging 3.2" at HVGA and I don't care about the next best thing. I'm ready to get a snapdragon, 3.7" WVGA amoled HTC phone from Verizon. That's something I can live with for 2 years, not 2008 screen size/resolution technology.

When you say, one more Android phone coming out in January, do you mean besides the others? I know the Saygus and Motorola Calgary are supposedly close to release. I wish there was solid info on the upcoming HTC phone, like FCC approval, for starters.

well if anyone is to be believed these days (fated) - then it will be an htc phone. htc has been saying 2 phones 'very early 2010'.. i guess its how u interpret very early. but they are wanting a 'high end android verizon phone' to be out there to give another option from the high end droid.
im sure we'll start hearing more info soon as the month of january approaches.

You keep quoting this "very early 2010" comment, yet my searches haven't found anything related to 2 new htc phones for Verizon.

It's the 27th. It's approaching pretty fast with zero info.

i doubt he's gonna ask his rep every day for updates. i'd expect updates MAYBE once a week from him, if that. if there were/are any sunday tidbits, don't you think he'd post them?

Remember guys, the CES is in a couple of weeks. If we don't hear anything this week, I'm pretty sure we'll hear something then.

Absolutely, CES should have an official announcement.

I spoke to our regional president and he confirmed that the "HTC Passion/Dragon will be in 1st quarter" again not giving me a for sure answer but he did assure me that VZW ordered 16.7 million units and they have all arrived. This phone was due to release December 6th but HTC once again failed to meet the deadline.

I'm really confident that by the time I have hard facts so will you guys because this is something that neither corporate nor HTC is releasing too much info about.

But again I will keep you guy updated, if not please stay tuned to CES where you should find out more.

For some reason January 5th stands out to me... We shall see if it is released on that date or later.

OK... I'm a little confused. Fated, you say..
As far as I know Incredible is the same as the Passion.
In other words, Incredible=Passion=Nexus1. Yet in a following post you say...
Nexus will not come to Verizon for sure. Verizon did not want to take it on for various reasons, including the soon about to be signed contract with Apple.
...and...

Are you saying that passion/dragon/incredible are the same phone and they are simply a re-branded or locked version of N1?

If so, this would be fantastic news.

No, I think he means there will be an official announcement about it on Jan. 5th.
This is consistent with other rumors being sprinkled around the mill lately.

Thanks a ton for the info!

Yeah um, 16.7m??? I dont know how carriers order phones or what a typical order quantity would be but that seems a little steep. Though at this point I find it hard to believe anything other than an official announcement.

Yeah... wasn't it Verizon's goal to sell 1 million Droids by the end of the year? How long would it take them to sell 16.7m of any phone.

For me, I don't care in the end. My 3 year old LG flip has one foot in the grave. My one month with a Droid spoiled me on on a smart phone. I'm ready to do something bad.

My default is to enjoy the Droid for at least 2 years. I LOVE this phone! It will serve me well. After the two years is up, I would probably change if 4G is out and I need a new phone to access that.

I apologize guys it was a typo, 1.67M was ordered. Sorry for the confusion. And a lot are ordered for replacement, warranty issues, employee demo, store demo, etc.

Agreed. This number sounds extremely steep. To put this into perspective, Apple sold a total of 14.7 million iPhones worldwide in 2007 and 2008 combined. (see table 2)

They didn't break 17m units until march of this year. (link)

Granted, smartphone sales have undoubtedly grown in the past year over previous years, but consider this, only 139 million smartphones were sold by all major manufacturers in 2008.

*EDIT* Posted before I saw your correction. Fated, can you address my question I posted here?

You have to remember that phone are not only ordered for Sales. Like I said they are also ordered for warranty replacements, employee/manager demo lines, store demo, etc etc.

As far as I know yes. They are all the same just re-branded.

Cannot 100% confirm this though.
