Any One Still Uses Old School Phones?

Anyone here still uses dumb phones?

My primary phone is the Samsung Galaxy S 2 and my secondary one is the Samsung SGH-X945

Mainly I use them so I don't have to use my smart phone in public. Phone theft is very rampant here. It's very convenient and light so I carry it anywhere. I use it for texting and calling, and I have a prepaid plan that I can text 500 texts to other networks. People here use two phones for two sims, because it is much cheaper

I actually use my dumb phone more than my smartphone.

What about you guys?

I use my older SE K810i .I like it too much and bad ROMs dont mess up important calls  .
So calling and messaging on the Sony ericsson and all other stuff on my G551

Also, dumb phones are build to last, especially Nokia and Samsung. When I was a kid, I dropped my Nokia at least 50 times, didn't even fazed it.

I don't understand why you would pay for a smartphone that you can't take out in public???? Seems like a big waste of money to me.... A mobile device that can't be used on the go... o_O

I just reactivated my old dumb phone because my new phone had a bad battery. No local sources for the battery and the battery was not listed on the carrier's web site.

I carry my iPad these days so email and other crap is easier to read and much nicer. I might stay with my cheaper dumb phone and its low, low monthly price.

I understand your reaction because you do not live in the Philippines. Phone theft here is more rampant since it's the easiest crime, and since my phone is a little big, its a big target for criminals.

I use it on school and all, not just on any public transportation and whatnot.

I'd rather not use it in public, than risk it and get mugged or the phone being snatched. In my 3 years, I have been mugged mainly for my phone and I even went to the hospital once. So I'd rather not use it on the streets.

Besides, I use it all the time inside buildings. I should have phrased my stament that I do not use it on the streets rather than in public.

Gotcha... Yeah the clarification helps. I wasn't jumping down your throat, just didn't understand. ;)

I know, sorry I didn't make myself clearer the first post.

This country, because of its economic state, dumb phones (even chinese knockoffs) are very popular here. Even though people don't have the money to buy high end phone. Majority of people, even very poor people can afford a phone.

We are the text capital of the world because text are cheaper than phones. I am just wondering if other countries still embrace dumb phones.

I have a Nokia 6233 which I was using until 2 weeks ago cos I kept getting an error message saying enhancment not supported so that convinced me to buy a new phone and I was originally going to get a Samsung Galaxy S II but the cost to buy outright was stopping me from buying it so I ended up with my Xperia Arc and I don't regret buying it. Not bad for my first droid phone.

Here in the US and A (in my best Borat voice) I would guess that it is still about a fifty fifty ratio. Maybe even more dumbphones still... I think for a lot of people, it is hard to justify spending that much more money both on the phone, and for the service...

New to smartphones this week. Just didn't see the need. Then I was like, what am I missing out on. Got the Optimus slider and I'm thrilled. Just being able to talk to text is great for me! The other stuff is just like new toys!

Dumb phones are a godsend when you can't have access to an outlet to charge your battery. Just now, I forgot to bring my chargers yesterday and my GS2 is dead, but good ol x945 still have more than have the charge even after two whole days without recharging.

Cool toys are awesome, but Old Reliable Dumb Phone can save you.

I bought a Somsong for 40 yuan from the local market last week, as I needed to purchase an additional pre-paid SIM for the time I'm in Beijing. Phone only works in Chinese, but will do to make and receive phone calls with. My European Samsung Galaxy S only takes one SIM, many phones here will take two SIMs.

All Chinese knockoffs I know are dual sims. Never use one, it's cheap but it breaks easily, rather buy a cheap original phone than a knockoff.

My classmate has an "iPheno". LOL

Somsung, Samsong, Nookia , Nokla, ePad, aPad, iPheno, Air-phone , HiPhone and such and such.

They have the resources to make a name from themselves but they just decided to produce knockoffs.

I do know the, I think the name is, Xiaomi. The only legitimate chinese phone I know

The Somsong dumb phone I bought has only got to last a couple of weeks, was about the equivalent of 6 bucks(USD). The pre-paid Beijing SIM cost more than the phone.

BTW dual SIM phones are popular in China, because it's always much cheaper to make outgoing calls using a local SIM rather than using a SIM from another province or city. My normal phone number and SIM are for Xilinhot, Inner Mongolia, but as I'm in Beijing for a few weeks, I purchased a local Beijing SIM which is on a different number. But I also want to receive incoming calls on my usual phone number, although one does pay for incoming calls when doing this, as the SIM is from another province. I also need to receive incoming calls on my Beijing phone number as well.

Do other countries have this arrangement as well? Where if one takes a SIM from one part of the country to another, one gets charged much more for phone calls, even though it's the same carrier? e.g. In the US, if I bought a pre-paid T-mobile SIM in say NYC and took it to LA, would I get charged for 'roaming'? I know it doesn't happen like this in the UK, probably because it's only a small country.

There are many legit brands of Chinese dumb phones and Android phones, including Lenovo. Some are good, some are not so good. Many of them are not usually seen outside of Asia.

In the Philippines one carrier has better offer for calls, while the other is used because it is much cheaper to text the same carrier. So dual sims are popular here.

Never heard of the legit brand, here when they say "chinese phone" it means cheap knockoffs.

What you've never heard of Lenovo, ZTE or Huawei? All are legit Chinese phones, not knock-off. There's even subforums on AF for them.

They're Chinese? Didn't know. The ZTE Blade is made into the Smart NetPhone. Smart is the second biggest network provider.

Lenovo or Huawei is not popular here, but some stores carry them

I still use nextel for work. Usually an i576 but I switch back and forth depending on the day.
