Any quick way to mute ENTIRE phone?

It shouldn't make any sound when you get an email if the "notification" slider is all the way to the left.

Test it like this...press up on the volume button at least two times, then press the gear symbol that appears to see the four volume sliders. On my phone, starting from the top down, these sliders are ringtone, media, notifications, and system. With your finger, move all of the sliders to the right, then wait a few seconds for the menu to disappear. Then press and hold down the volume button until the phone vibrates. Again, press the gear symbol to see the volume sliders, and you should see all of the sliders have move to the left except the "media" slider.

On my phone, this turns off the notification sound for almost everything including the stock G-Mail, Email, calendar, and text messaging apps. It does not turn off the sound for any alarms that I have set in the stock clock application.

When I do this, like you describe, the "notifications" slider does not move left, at all. It stays where I put it. The MUTE button and the volume rocker have ZERO affect at all on "notifications".

It just seems ridiculous that I have to load an ap to silence the notifications. Absolutely ridiculous.

The volume rocker is context sensitive. If you are at hour home screen, the rocker controls the ringer volume. If you are watching a video, it controls the media volume. There is currently no context sensitive situation where it controls the notification volume.

I would think that muting the phone from the menu you get long pressing the power button would also mute the notifications. I don't do it that way.

I advise you to try Volume Control +. It's a perfect solution to all your volume control issues. It allows you to create different volume profiles quickly.

I don't know if this is new or not, but there's a "blocking mode" under settings> My device. When this mode is turned on, notifications for selected features will be turned off. You can block incoming calls, notifications, alarms and LED indicator.

I just got my S3 and after reading this thread i was curious so i tried holding down my volume control button on the left of the device and guess what....IT SILENCED EVERYTHING but the media volumes. so no problems here and i have a stock VZW S3.

Stock Verizon here too, but volume rocker ONLY moves "Ringtone" and "System". Media and Notifications do not move.
