Help Any way to enable notification alert?

Does the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket have a way to enable ongoing notifications? For example - if I get a message or an appt reminder, but haven't acknowledged it - is there any kind of indicator to make me aware I have something new to look at? Every phone I've ever owned has either had either a pulsing light or a recurring sound. I can't seem to find anything like that on this phone. It's really annoying - there have been so many times where I pick up my phone and discover I received a new message hours ago.

This is a pretty important feature - I'm sure it's here somewhere and I just don't know where to look. (or maybe the ICS upgrade broke it - as it did with the email app, my Outlook integration, and....)

Thanks - I'm not sure that'll help because I'll still have to be turning the screen on constantly to see if I have something to respond to. But I'll check it out.

Most phones have some way of telling you that you have a reminder or indicator to tell you there's a notification waiting so that if you walk out of the room and come back, you see (or hear) your phone reminding you to check it out.

I just got my Skyrocket a couple of days ago and was similarly stunned by the lack of notification options. I don't sit by my phone all the time, so I really count on the visual indicator. I've just downloaded the app: NoLED (free), which I'm hoping will help. From what I understand, it doesn't require that you unlock/sweep. Perhaps that would help.
