Any way to improve terrible audio?

Just got this phone and overall am completely happy with it. But the audio is awful. Using it for driving navigation is virtually impossible; if the radio is on or the windows are down, it's totally inaudible, and with the volume maxed out, it's completely distorted. And for listening to music, plugged into Aux jack, the volume is quite low and there seems to be zero bass. My $50 Samsung Vitality from Cricket had much better audio.

Would any of those "volume boost" apps do anything positive for me?

Plug in headphones. If the bass and volume improve, you have a defective speaker (which would be covered by the warranty). If not, it's probably just the way the phone is designed. (Volume boosting apps do and/or don't work depending on how they work and on the phone. You can't pump out more audio than the phone is capable of. If the limit is the amount of power the hardware can produce, nothing will make it louder [sending it more audio will just increase the amount of distortion]. If the limit is how much audio is sent to the hardware, a volume boosting app that increases the level sent to the hardware will help.)

I used this phone for 2 days and also feel that the audio (built-in speaker as well as the ear speaker) quality are subpar. This phone has so much potential but it seems like they cheapened out in some basic areas (lack of auto brightness, poor audio quality, insufficient and poor implementation of SD space usage).

Call audio quality sounds like listening through a hollow shoe box.
