Help Any way to keep screen on indefinitely?

Hey all,

Quick question,

Is there any setting that allows the screen to stay on and not time out? Looked in the display menu and the longest is 10 minutes. I remember that my Evo had a option to stay on if the phone was plugged into a dock or charging cable.

Thanks!:D

The only feature I'm aware of is the "Smart Stay" option which will keep the screen on as long as you are watching it. And I'm sure someone will add that if you root you will be able to change the time out setting to keep the screen on.

In Settings > Accessory > there is something called Desk Home Screen Display which can be checked. I don't know if this will work, but has something to do with the display and the dock, so maybe?

It was on my HTC Evo 4G LTE and it's on my Thinkpad tablet. In developer options there's a box you can check where the screen will not time out if it's plugged into a power source.

Doesn't seem to be in the developer options menu on the SIII. Reason I like to do this is when I'm listening to music at my desk at work I like to see what's playing without constantly turning on the phone.

There are apps like Screebl Lite that will keep the backlight on using the orientation of the device. As long as the device is not laying flat, the screen will stay on. That way you can keep the backlight timeout set at 15 seconds.

None of those options or apps work on my S3,
When I am plugged in and have the "lock screen" on, the screen times out.

Not to be rude, but why would you want the screen always on?

When I'm listening to music at work I like to keep the screen on to see who's playing on Pandora without having to keep turning on the phone.

I bought the charging dock and when you mount it on the dock it goes into desk clock mode and the screen stays on indefinitely. But when you close the desk clock function and go into an app like Pandora or the music player it times out, really weird.

I usually only keep it on a couple hours a day, and keep the backlight on the lowest setting.:smokingsomb:

I use SwitchPro Widget - which is basically a customization strip of on/off switches for settings (much like the thing at the top of the touch wiz notification screen). Its "screen timeout" toggle works on my S3.

I'm in the same boat. It's not that I necessarily want it on all the time; I don't want it shutting off on its own at all. This forces me to turn it on + unlock frequently during use, which is unnecessary and annoying.

Caffeine, per usual, did the trick!

The application Screeble Lite works has worked well on my S3 since I got it. I used it very frequently on my DX when I was doing reading on my device. I'm not sure if the OP has tried to download it and run. It's really easy to turn on (when you want your screen to stay on) and off (when I want the screen to time out per normal settings).

We both use Screebl Pro on our FroYo based Incredibles (got it free from one of Amazons FAOTD promotions) and both love it. I had wondered how well it worked on the S3 since it's not had any updates in like forever.

I'm glad I installed Caffeine before I drove today: I use Torque for gauges; the screen shutting off would have made that useless/distracting.

If you are just wanting to be able to have apps running in the background while screen is off I would recommend getting the Juice Defender Plus app and you can configure what apps you would like to be able to opperate while the screen is off. Hope this helps.
